London Marathon Walk
Our walking route takes us around the well-known names from the game, from Old Kent Road to Mayfair, Kings Cross Station to Whitehall. En route we take in many of London’s world-famous sights including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the London Eye and the Tower of London as we trace our challenging route through the heart of the historic city. This is an enjoyable and rewarding way to explore our capital city, but be prepared for a long, tough one-day event! Are you ready to pass Go?

The itinerary
We meet early for registration at our start-point in Burgess Park, Southwark, and head out through the park onto Old Kent Road. The only Monopoly property south of the Thames, it formed part of the old Roman road to Dover. We head along it and strike off north to cross the Thames at Tower Bridge, an inspiring landmark. We enjoy great views of the Tower of London, where great historical figures such as Anne Boleyn would no doubt have been grateful for a Get out of Jail Free card.
Passing St Katharine’s Docks, we head north onto Whitechapel Road and then turn west towards Fenchurch Street Station, the first of the four prized Monopoly railway stations. Mixing the modern with the old, we have great views of the Gherkin and then pass Monument, the tower commemorating the Great Fire of London of 1666.
Crossing the Thames again, we walk alongside its south bank, passing landmarks including the Globe Theatre and the Millennium Bridge, while St Paul’s Cathedral can be seen across the river. This is a lovely part of our walk, and our legs should be feeling good! Our route takes us over the Thames again, ticking off the Strand and Fleet Street, then to our northernmost point at The Angel, Islington. We continue along the other light blue properties, Pentonville Road and Euston Road, towards Regent’s Park, which marks our halfway point. We then walk down Sherlock Holmes’ famous Baker Street before heading for Marylebone Station.
Heading south, we tick off the green properties of Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street in quick succession, before coming to Hyde Park via the board’s most expensive properties, Mayfair and Park Lane. Looping south towards Kensington and Marlborough Street, we return east, passing a procession of landmarks including Hyde Park Corner, Buckingham Palace and Constitution Hill, The Mall, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square. We now have only one Monopoly landmark left, so we walk down the historic thoroughfare of Whitehall, passing Downing Street and the Cenotaph. We continue to Westminster Abbey and come to the Thames, which we cross for fabulous views across the river to the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
Only two miles now remain, and we cross residential and shopping streets on tired but determined legs, to receive a huge welcome back at Burgess Park! After some refreshments to celebrate our huge achievement, we say our farewells and head home.
